TSHEGL

Philipp Silbernagl

Beneath the picturesque surface of South Tyrol lies a world often misunderstood—a world where farmers are unfairly viewed as backward and insular. However, this film uncovers the genuine life of a young farmer, revealing his challenges and his unique world. Here, tradition isn’t seen as outdated but as a conscious way of living. Through Tobias’s perspective, we discover that progress and tradition can coexist. The film captures the raw, authentic moments of rural life, where evenings are spent scraping dirt from under your fingernails instead of going out to clubs. It shatters stereotypes, offering a respite from the fast-paced world and inviting viewers to delve deeper into a life often overlooked. MORE

Porajmos. In Memory of the Roma and Sinti Holocaust

Giovanni Princigalli

The presentation and release of this short film, falls exactly on the 80th anniversary of the commemoration of the Roma and Sinti holocaust, proclaimed by the European Parliament in 2015. This short video is a film without words. It uses images that tell the story of Roma and Sinti life before Nazism, and then, during their extermination. Estimates of the death toll range from 500,000 to 1 million. The images, as well as the music, were donated by the U.S. Holocaust Museum. Porajamos, in Romanesque, means "to devour" or "sexual violence". Although the 2nd World War ended in 1945, the Roma Holocaust is commemorated in terms of two tragic events that took place at Auschwitz in March 1944 and August 1944. In March, the camp's Roma rebelled against the Nazis. But on August 2, they were all exterminated in a single night. The film also contains an animation. MORE

Beyond Words

Kim Brand

How can we make meaningful contact after language fails us? In Kim Brand’s ‘Beyond Words’ the viewer is taken to a realm where language takes second place to improvised sound. The singers of the Genetic Choir Ensemble visit nursing homes and interact with residents living with dementia. The improvising singers show great sensitivity to the residents, who are at times extremely vulnerable. By listening and improvising with sound, rhythm, touch and melody, the singers seek connection with the elderly. Moments of melancholy and cheerfulness go hand in hand in this short, black and white documentary that shows what singing can do when other forms of communication have been lost. MORE

The Sound of Ventilation

Audun Bjerknes

Throughout my filmmaking life, ventilation sound has been a constant nuisance. I have argued with janitors to turn it off, moved shooting sessions to avoid it and sat in the cutting room for long hours to edit it out. Then a conference about ventilation sound comes along and I am invited to make a film about ventilation sound. It turns everything around. Ventilation suddenly gets a starring role! I go back into my archives from 10 years of recordings as a video producer at the University of Oslo and let ventilation speak with its own voice. Through recordings from conferences, fieldwork and case videos, we get to know the ubiquitous ventilation better. It turns out to have a unique and mysterious story to tell. MORE
