The Sound of Ventilation

Throughout my filmmaking life, ventilation sound has been a constant nuisance. I have argued with janitors to turn it off, moved shooting sessions to avoid it and sat in the cutting room for long hours to edit it out. Then a conference about ventilation sound comes along and I am invited to make a film about ventilation sound. It turns everything around. Ventilation suddenly gets a starring role! I go back into my archives from 10 years of recordings as a video producer at the University of Oslo and let ventilation speak with its own voice. Through recordings from conferences, fieldwork and case videos, we get to know the ubiquitous ventilation better. It turns out to have a unique and mysterious story to tell.
